The Yanney Heritage Park Foundation is continuing the legacy of a strong public/private partnership with the City of Kearney, area schools, community organizations, and the public through the construction of seven botanical gardens at Yanney Heritage Park in Kearney, Nebraska. Our project is called "The Gardens at Yanney Park."  Once completed, these gardens will showcase the relationships and value of plants and plant groups to people and our environment.

The Gardens at Yanney Park will be completed in three phases.  Phase I will consist of the Native Nebraska, Pollinators, and Lilac & Hydrangea gardens along with complementing trails and public art. This first phase was completed October 2021.

Phase II will add four remaining gardens: Annuals, Rose, Xeriscape and Edibles, along with the Center Courtyard and a reflecting pond. The second phase is anticipated to be completed by October 2022, depending on fundraising.

Phase III will complete the project with a pavilion, gazebo, trailhead and parking lot.  The third phase will start when funds are in place, and can begin before or concurrent with Phase II. Our goal is to have it completed by 2023.

As each phase is completed, alongside our partnership with the City of Kearney, we will open a world of educational and environmental opportunities to help the public understand and appreciate the beauty and healthful value to society of each of the plant groupings contained in the botanical gardens.  We will have a botanical garden that is accessible to all – our goal is to be inclusive, educational, inspirational, recreational, intergenerational and amazing!
